BOSTON — After a 1-1 opening weekend, the Northeastern field hockey team hosts Holy Cross (1-0) and Merrimack (0-1) in their first home games of the 2023 season. The home opener against Holy Cross is at 6 p.m. Friday, Sept. 1 and the matchup with Merrimack is Sunday, Sept. 3 at 12 p.m.
THREE THINGS TO KNOW:
1. HOME SWEET HOME — The Huskies have won their past two home openers and are 7-3 in their last ten home openers. They beat Stonehill 7-0 in 2022 and Holy Cross 4-0 in 2021. All-time against Holy Cross, the Huskies are 14-1 and have not lost to the Crusaders since 1980.
2. ROWE-ING RIGHT ALONG — Graduate student midfielder
Lauren Rowe scored twice in the Huskies' first win over Bellarmine Sunday, Aug. 27. It was her first action since Nov. 5, 2021 and the multi-goal effort was the eighth time she's scored multiple in a game during her collegiate career. Junior midfielder
Lara Taylor and senior forward
Lauryn Wojcik each scored a goal last weekend to add to Rowe's effort.
3. GOLDEN GOALIE — Junior goaltender
Kristina Merashoff made her first career start and had a career-high eight saves in the Huskies' first game at No. 9 Louisville Saturday, Aug. 26 before earning her first career win in net over Bellarmine Sunday. She allowed just one goal in the win.
