BROOKLINE, MA — The second ranked Old Dominion Lady Monarchs overpowered the 11th ranked Northeastern Huskies in winning 8-0 on Sunday at Parsons Field.
Player of the Year candidate Marina DiGiacomo did little to hurt her chances, scoring ODU's first three goals and adding a fourth in the second half. The Lady Monarchs controlled play from the start, but the NU defense stopped them from scoring for the game's first 15 minutes. But then DiGiacomo took over. She first scored at 19:42 on a brilliant solo effort. She added a second goal on a penalty shot 24 seconds later, and a third score on a pass from Adrienne Yoder at 17:06. Goals by Laura Steadman at 15:36 and Angie Loy at 12:32 gave ODU five scores in slightly over seven minutes.
In the first half, Old Dominion outshot NU 11-1. The numbers only continued in ODU's favor and for the game, ODU outshot the Huskies 24-1 and had 12 penalty corners to NU's 1.
DiGiacomo scored her fourth goal at 27:29 of the second, and scores by Julie Miracle and Kelly Malinoski completed the scoring.
Kathleen Madaus made 11 saves for the Huskies while Marybeth Freemen earned the shutout without making a save for Old Dominion.
