The volleyball team won for the eighth time in 11 matches, and continued to solidify its chances of making the CAA Tournament with a 3-1 (30-27, 30-27, 27-30, 30-17) win over Virginia Commonwealth Saturday afternoon in Richmond, Va. Lauren DeTurk and Caitlin Tittl paced the Husky offense with 14 and 10 kills, while Jessica Tkachuk had 26 assists. The Huskies return to action next Friday for the first of their final two home games when they take on UNC Wilmington at 7 p.m.
Game one was tied 27-27 before the Huskies reeled off three straight points to close out the game. Sarah Stein delivered two straight kills, then DeTurk finished the game off with the assist from Britney Brown.
Game two was tied 21-21, then the Huskies scored seven straight points to take a 28-21 lead. The Rams however rallied, scoring five of the next six points to cut Northeastern's lead to 29-26. DeTurk though put an end to the Rams' rally with a kill.
VCU took game three to keep the match going, but Northeastern had its best performance of the night in game four, hitting .359 as a team to win the match. The game was once tied 6-6, but Northeastern scored 14 of the game's next 20 points to take a commanding 20-10 advantage. Following a kill by DeTurk that gave the Huskies match point, an error by the Rams ended the match.
