Huskies' bats go quiet, fall to Kansas State 6-1

The Huskies managed just one run and four hits off of tough Kansas State pitching, falling 6-1 in Winter Haven, Fla. Three of those hits came consecutively in the sixth inning, manufacturing the lone run.

Starting pitcher JT Ross allowed two runs in the first inning to the Wildcats, but settled down after that, allowing just one run and two hits in his remaining four innings.

Kansas State pitcher Evan Marshall kept the Huskies hitless through five innings before Jason Roth, Ryan Maguire and Matt Miller strung three singles together. Tony DiCesare's sacrifice fly brought home Maguire for the only Northeastern run.

The Kansas State hitters made the Huskies' pitchers work all night, working their way to 3-2 counts nine times throughout the game. Ross threw 95 pitches in his five innings of work and Charly Bashara threw 39 in just two innings. Bashara faced seven batters and struck out three of them.

The game, scheduled to start at 5 p.m., got pushed to 7:40 p.m. after the game before lasted five hours and two minutes.

The Huskies take the field tomorrow at 2:30 p.m. against Western Michigan at Lake Myrtle Park in Auburndale, Fla. Junior RHP Brandon McNelis is scheduled to start on the mound.
