Northeastern scored two runs in the ninth inning and had the bases loaded with two outs, but the Huskies couldn't quite pull out a win against William & Mary in Williamsburg, Va. NU bookended the game with runs, scoring twice in the first and ninth innings, but it was the six unanswered runs that proved to be too much to battle back from. #
Kevin Ferguson# finished with two doubles and a run scored, while
John Puttress and
Tony DiCesare each added two hits and an RBI.
Northeastern struck first, scoring twice in the first to take its first lead of the series.
Matt Miller singled to lead off the game, moved to second when
Alan Pastyrnak was hit by a pitch, and scored on DiCesare's RBI single. Pastyrnak scored on the next play as Puttress grounded out.
The Tribe countered with one in the bottom of the frame, and held NU scoreless for the next seven innings as they built a 6-2 lead. They scored once in the first, third, fifth and seventh innings and had two runs in the sixth.
Facing a four run deficit in the ninth, NU started to rally. Ferguson doubled to lead off the inning, his second two-bagger of the game.
David Gustafson, pinch-hitting for
Ryan Maguire, singled on the first pitch, sending Ferguson to third. A rare strikeout from Miller was the second out of the frame, giving NU just one out to work with.
Brendan Stokes was hit by a pitch in his pinch-hit at bat, loading the bases for DiCesare.
The Tribe tried to pitch around him, but made a mistake, allowing Ferguson to score on a wild pitch. DiCesare walked, re-loading the bases for Puttress. He singled into left field, bringing home one run and moving everyone up one base. But a first-pitch fly-out to left ended the inning, sealing the sweep for William & Mary.

Charly Bashara tossed five innings, allowing two earned runs while striking out two.
JT Ross and
Brandon McNelis each struck out two batters in relief. Bashara moves to 1-3 with the loss.
Three Huskies were hit by pitches, and DiCesare drew two walks. NU out-hit the Tribe by a 12-9 margin, but couldn't get hits when they were needed most.
