Dartmouth Relays Results
The men's track and field team started 2011 off with a bang by claiming the Dartmouth Relays championship, paced by victories from rookie
Kaylin Miranda in the long jump along with a win in the men's distance medley relay, 10 second-place finishes and a pair of third-place showings.
The Huskies won the event over host Dartmouth by 27.3 points, collecting a total of 119.20 points and beat out 28 other teams, including 11 collegiate squads.
Newcomer
Darius Velez headlined for the Huskies as the transfer sprinter broke a five-year old school record in the 60-meter dash. Velez ousted Obaro Emenike's old standard of 6.92 set on Jan. 7, 2006 by finishing in second place with a time of 6.90 seconds.
Miranda's win in the long jump came thanks to a 7.07m (23'2.5) vault while the men's distance medley team consisting of
Andrew Snyder,
Anthony Gentles,
Luke Malley and
Sebastian Putzeys recorded a winning clip of 10:46.20, 34 ticks above their nearest competitor.
Veteran
Andrew Staples turned in a sound showing with a pair of second-place results in both the long jump and high jump. Staples leaped for 6.95m (22'9.75) in the long jump and cleared 1.98m (6'6) in the high jump. Rookie
Jackson MacDonald's 1.93m (6'4) jump earned his a third-place label.
Sophomore
Tejorn Davis put together a second-place combination of 13.45m (44'1.5) for second place while senior
Brian Daly cleared 4.57m (15') for a season-best and second-place finish in the pole vault. Rookie
Darwin Gibbons finished third in the pole vault with a mark of 4.42m (14'6).
Junior
Evan Whetsell continued on his torrent path in the 800-meter run, netting a second-place run of 1:56 while newcomer
Brian Doyle also earned second place in the mile to the tune of a 4:19 mark.
Sophomore
John Jantz represented the Huskies in the 5,000-meter challenge and outlasted the field for a second place with a time of 15:37.01.
Both relay teams, including the 4 x 200-meter and 4 x 400-meter relays, banned together for respective clips of 1:31.02 and 3:21.99 for second place results.
Senior
Patrick Jablonski registered a sixth-place toss in the shot put with a mark of 15.19m (49'10) while newcomer
Max Milder gained the same finish in the 35 lb. weight throw by clearing 16.50m (54'1.75).
Joining Velez in his record-breaking performance was rookie Kermado Tyrell. Tyrell cleaned up with a fifth-place showing of 7.08.
In the 3,000-meter challenge, freshman
Eric Jenkins put forth NU's best showing with a seventh-place pace of 8:37.69 while second-year runner
Dan Grant claimed 12th with a time of 8:55.73.
Trying to build momentum of their win, the Huskies will now make their way to New Haven, Conn. on Saturday, Jan. 15 to take part in the Yale Invitational.
