Results
The Northeastern men's track & field team trekked down to Tallahassee, Fla. for the Florida State Relays this past weekend and competed with some of the nation's best, posting 10 top-five finishes along the way.
Sophomore
Nick Ryan registered Northeastern's top time in the 5,000-meter run this season, finishing the race in 14:58.81 for second place. Ryan was the top collegiate in the field of 46 while Tom Webb captured the win, just four seconds ahead of Ryan (14:54.73).
Senior
Patrick Jablonski chalked up two of the Huskies' top-five marks, earning third and fourth in the shot put and discus throw, respectively. The Deerfield, Mass. native cleared 15.58m (51'1.5) for the third-place mark in the shot put while the distance of 48.74m (159'11) was good for fourth. Both of Jablonski's throws stand as NU season bests thus far.
Freshman
Kevin Rosenberg offered up a fourth-place measure of 14.84m (48'8.25) in the shot put to maintain Northeastern's strong presence in the field.
Rookie
Max Milder and veteran
Alex Iannetta reinforced NU's throwing dominance with respective second and third-place showings of 50.46m (165'7) and 50.38m (165'3) in the hammer throw.
In the triple jump, senior
Brian Racca recorded his second-best combination of the outdoor season with a mark of 14.04m (46'1.25).
Evan Whetsell scored Northeastern's other fourth-place finish by looping the track twice in 1:52.50 in the 800-meter race. The Potomac, Md. native's time is the best of NU's five trials this season.
Kaylin Miranda and
Andrew Staples put forth a strong showing in the long jump, registering respective leaps of 7.26m (23'10) and 7.21 (23'8) for third and fourth place. Both jumps earned Miranda and Staples spots in the IC4A Championship.
Junior transfer
Darius Velez captured sixth in the 100-meter dash with a time of 10.80 while freshman
Jackson MacDonald crossed in 23.46 for 27th in the 200-meter dash. In the 400-meter run, newcomer
Alex Shapiro picked up ninth in 49.67 while
Myles Mason's lap of 51.19 was good for 24th.
In the 1,500-meter run, junior Dan Grant was awarded ninth with a time of 3:58.74.
In the 110-meter hurdles, freshman
Sean Collins beat out 15 others for sixth place with a time of 15.21 while MacDonald placed 10th with a time of 15.38. In the 400-meter hurdles, captain
Jonathan Hall punched in a sixth-place mark of 53.70 while Collins posted another top-10 showing, grabbing seventh in 54.05. Miranda finished 24th in 1:02.42.
The Huskies 4 x 400-meter relay foursome of Hall, Collins, Whetsell and Shapiro joined forces for a sixth-place time of 3:18.34. It currently stands as the Huskies' best mark in the 4 x 400-meter relay.
Closing out the throws portion for Northeastern was rookie John White with an eight-place toss of 13.85m (45'5.25) in the shot put. Classmate
Conor Ebbs followed with a 10th-place pitch of 13.32m (43'8.5).
Behind Jablonski's efforts in the discus throw, Ebbs picked up ninth with a throw of 41.78m (137'1) while freshman
Kevin Rosenberg was 10th in 41.73m (136'11). White placed 16th (38.81m – 127'4) while Milder finished up in 17th (38.70m – 127').
Junior
Greg Andrus and newcomer
Christopher Reider were awarded respective throws of 49.36m (161'11) and 48.65m (159'7) for 13th and 14th in the javelin throw.
The Huskies look to continue their arduous schedule with a trip to the Ramapo Invitational on Saturday, April 2 in Mahwah, N.J.
