2011 Schedule
The Northeastern field hockey team announced its 2011 schedule on Tue., May 24, one that features seven home games at Sweeney Field to go along with 12 road games and one neutral site affair.
Northeastern is entering its seventh season in the always-competitive Colonial Athletic Association. The Huskies will once again have a challenging non-conference slate before entering conference play. The schedule features matchups with seven teams that finished the 2010 season nationally ranked, and four teams that received votes in the final poll.
“We are excited about the balance of our 2011 schedule which will challenge us both regionally and nationally as well as within the CAA,” head coach
Cheryl Murtagh said. “The strength of our schedule allows us the opportunity for a consistent top-20 national ranking.”
Northeastern will begin the season with two road contests at Maine and Providence before taking on Lafayette at Harvard. Sept. 5 marks the first home game of the year, as the Huskies will welcome Big Ten opponent Michigan State to Sweeney Field. It's the first time Northeastern has hosted a Big Ten opponent since Northwestern came to town in 2008.
Other home games at Sweeney Field include visits from James Madison, Virginia Commonwealth, Delaware, Harvard, Boston College and Boston University. The Huskies will hit the road to face off against Cal, Stanford, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, William & Mary, Old Dominion, Hofstra, Drexel and Towson.
The 2011 CAA Championship will be hosted by the highest overall conference seed and will take place Nov. 5-6. The NCAA Tournament will begin on Nov. 12, with the Final Four taking place at Old Dominion on Nov. 18-20.
The Huskies finished last season with a 10-11 record, a one-win improvement on the 2009 season. Northeastern also advanced to the CAA Tournament for the first time since 2007.
