Crystal Poland and freshman
Deirdre Duke, represent Northeastern field hockey on the Longstreth/NFHCA Division I All-America teams, the NFHCA announced Tuesday. Poland, who was honored as the Northeast Region's Player of the Year Monday, earned first team recognition for the second year in a row. Duke, who was the CAA Rookie of the Year following her breakout freshman campaign, earned third team honors.
Both Huskies also earned respective All-America nods from Synapse Sports, the host of WomensFieldHockey.com. Poland, a Crofton, British Columbia, native becomes a three-time All-America honoree following her impressive season with 63 points on 28 goals and seven assists. Duke adds to her national recognition on the heels of a standout freshman season, notching 34 points on 14 goals and six assists. The two combined for 12 game-winning goals this year.
As a senior, Poland accrued three CAA Player of the Week honors on her way to being named the conference's Player of the Year. Duke, meanwhile, earned three Rookie of the Week accolades and was dubbed the CAA Rookie of the Year. Both were also selected as First Team All-CAA honorees. The dynamic duo spearheaded a Northeastern attack that propelled the Huskies to a 14-7 (5-2 CAA) record and an NCAA birth for the second season in a row.
