BOSTON -- The Northeastern field hockey program has announced that it will add four incoming freshman and one transfer to the 2014 fall roster, head coach
Marisa Dunn
Dunn, the sister of rising senior
Kellie Stigas
Stigas played four years at Canton High School under head coach Fior Griffin, a Northeastern alumna. She was a four-year starter, and served as captain during her senior season. The Canton, Mass. native finished her career with 34 goals and 29 assists, including 17 goals and 11 assists as a senior. Stigas helped Canton to four straight Hockomock League titles and two Massachusetts South Sectional championships in 2010 and 2011, and potted the lone goal in a 1-0 victory against rival Foxboro, scored twice against Mansfield and recorded a hat trick against Sharon to lead the team to the conference championship As a senior, she was named Hockomock League Most Valuable Player and earned the Team MVP honor. She also played club for Jersey Intensity that ranked third in the nation and won the gold medal at the National Field Hockey Festival in 2012 and 2013, and competed for Team USA at the National Futures Championship from 2009 to 2013, and participated in the Futures Elite Academy in 2013.

"Kellie is with what's called the Futures Elite Program, and is doing extremely well there," Murtagh said. "She's a tall player and I like her reach. She will probably play forward to start, but she could play midfield for us in the future. She has a good attitude, she's very coachable, and I enjoyed working with her this summer already."

Tornberg played four seasons at Eastern Regional High School under head coach Danielle Heilig, and was part of a team that won back-to-back New Jersey state championships with undefeated seasons in 2012 (25-0) and 2013 (26-0-1). She was also part of the 2013 Tournament of Champions winners at Eastern Regional, and played club field hockey for Spirit of USA under coach Lori Hillman.

"Haley seems to be the one that is surprising me the most already," Murtagh said. "I think she's a good player, and she comes from a great program. She has a very good skill level and I think she will contribute to Northeastern, and maybe could be sooner than I had originally hoped."

Northeastern will look to make a return to the national tournament this season when the Huskies kickoff the 2014 season at Dedham Field.
