USA Field Hockey Women's National Championship

BOSTON – Three members of the Northeastern field hockey team have been selected to compete for Team New England at the 2014 Women's National Championship, which was announced by USA Field Hockey. Vice captain Katie Carlson, as well as Emma Lamison and Vanessa Pryor, will suit up during the national championship in June.

The Women's National Championship will be held at Spooky Nook Sports in Lancaster, Pennsylvania on June 15-21. The event is held annually and features the most elite athletes in the country, including top collegiate players, current National Team members and members of the 2012 U.S. Olympic Women's Field Hockey Team. Athletes train at High Performance sites throughout the country in the hopes of being named to the Women's National Championship squad for their region. The six regional squads then face off in June for the prestigious title of national champion. The Women's National Championship also serves as the selection trials for the U.S. Women's National Squad.

Carlson (Watertown, Massachusetts) is a rising senior returning to the Huskies in 2014 after missing all of last season due to injury. The back has two goals and two assists in 41 career games at Northeastern, and helped lead NU to two consecutive appearances in the national tournament during her freshman and sophomore seasons.

Lamison played in 21 games as a freshman in 2013, including four starts. The Liverpool, N.Y. native made her collegiate debut against Monmonth on August 30, and recorded her first career start on October 30 against Harvard.

Pryor (Centereach, N.Y.) appeared in all 21 games for the Huskies last season, including 20 starts, and was fifth on the team with nine points (four goals, one assist). She notched her first collegiate goal against Monmouth in the season opener on August 30, lifting the Huskies to a 2-1 victory in overtime. NU was 3-1 last season when Pryor scored a goal.

USA Field Hockey's High Performance Training Centers identify and train potential National Team athletes through comprehensive training and skill enhancement sessions, as well as premier level competitions. High Performance Centers allow athletes to train in regional areas close to their homes by some of the country's top coaches.

Team New England is coached by Massachusetts head coach Carla Tagliente, who has led the Minutewomen to two NCAA tournament berths in her three seasons at the helm of the program. She is assisted by several of the region's top coaches including UConn associate head coach Paul Caddy, Boston College head coach Ainslee Lamb, Yale head coach Pam Stuper and assistant coach Tamara Durante, Boston University head coach Sally Starr, Holy Cross head coach Zowie Tucker, Massachusetts assistant coach Roz Ellis and Syracuse assistant coach Allan Law.
