Season Stats
Hempstead, N.Y. – Northeastern suffered a 3-2 heartbreaker at the home of the Hofstra Pride this evening. Northeastern (18-7, 8-3 CAA) played very strong, including a 25-16 set four score, but was unable to overcome a severe deficit in set five. Hofstra improves to 17-7 overall and 7-5 in the CAA with four matches to go in conference play.
In tonight's match,
Kristen Walding tallied her seventh double-double of the season with 55 assists and 11 digs. Walding notched her 600th career dig in the middle of set one. Additionally,
Hannah Fry put down her 300th career kill, one of 12 she registered in the five setter. Fry also blocked six Pride attacks, a new career high. This marks the second straight match Fry has broken her career best in blocks.
Sherrie Wang totaled four aces, doubling her previous career high.
Jamie Bredahl led the team with 15 kills and teammate
Caterina Rosander was right on her tail with 14. Rosander hit just two errors giving her a .600 hitting percentage for the match.
Hannah Fry and
Brigitte Burcescu also contributed double digit kills, recording 12 and 10 respectively. Eyl came close to her career high, just three digs short with 26 tonight.
The Pride seemed to have a pretty inconsistent match, but were able to jump to enough of a lead in the final frame to prevent a Husky comeback. Laura Masciullo led the team with 23 kills, followed by Paola Figueroa with 15. Hannah Klemm and Luisa Sydlik split setting duties with 31 and 24 assists respectively. Sophia Black led the Pride with 24 digs and Michela Rucli put up five blocks.
Set One Recap (25-22 Hofstra)
- An ace from Eyl put the Huskies up 3-1.
- After seeing the score tied four times, Hofstra took a slight lead 10-8.
- Northeastern chipped back to tie the score at 10.

- Hofstra struggled to get control of the Northeastern attack as the Huskies took an 8-4 lead.
- Hofstra tied the set at 10, and was able keep a two-point lead until the Huskies came blazing back to tie it at 17.
- Three consecutive aces from Wang and a block assist from Underdown and White put Northeastern up four at 22-18.
- Hofstra was able to cut the lead to one at 22-21.
- The Huskies notched crucial kills at the end to take set two.
Set Three Recap (25-21 Hofstra)
- Set three saw the score tied five times before knotting at 6-6.
- Hofstra was out of rotation, landing a point for Northeastern.
- Hofstra jumped to 9 but the Huskies came back to tie it.
- Northeastern took a timeout after the Pride grabbed a 12-9 lead.
- The Pride poked one over to maintain a five-point lead. (15-10)
- Northeastern stayed right with Hofstra not allowing more than a two-point deficit.
- Hofstra gained a bit of offensive momentum to widen the gap to four at 21-17.

- The Pride were missing from wherever Northeastern sent the ball, allowing the Huskies to gain a six-point lead at 15-9.
- Two consecutive errors from the Pride put Northeastern up 21-16.
- Shaina White's serve sent two Hofstra players running into each other for a 23-16 Northeastern lead.
- Back-to-back kills from Bredahl sent the match to set five.
Set Five Recap (15-9 Hofstra)
- Hofstra tallied the first four points forcing a Northeastern timeout.
- The Pride used the momentum to gain a 10-3 advantage.
- Hofstra pulled ahead nine. (12-3)
- Northeastern went on a 4-0 run but the comeback fell short against the Pride.
