Boca Raton, Fla. – The Northeastern volleyball team (1-1) earned their first match win of the season today (Friday) after defeating Bethune-Cookman University (0-2) in three straight sets. The Huskies asserted their dominance on the court posting scores of 25-17, 25-14 and 25-14.

The Huskies achieved a .347 hitting percentage with six players marking five or more kills. Senior
Jamie Bredahl and junior
Carmen Costa led the team in kills with seven each. Junior
Kristen Walding posted 29 assists and six kills in the match. Freshman
Natalie Shollin tallied her first collegiate kill on the match winner in set three.

Notable performances for Bethune-Cookman included eight digs from Alondra Baustista, 16 assists from Phalen Clark and three blocks from Phylecia Armstrong.

Recap vs. Drake University (Aug. 26 - 10 a.m.)
The Northeastern volleyball team fell to the Drake University Bulldogs in its season opener at the FAU Invitational, Friday. The Huskies forced a four set match after easily winning the third set (25-18) with the largest margin of the match.

After Drake (1-0) took the first two sets (25-21, 25-19), the Huskies (0-1) cut into their lead with the third set win. The Bulldogs eventually earned the win in set four with a score 25-20.

Northeastern freshmen
Amy Underdown and
Shaina White both earned their first collegiate starts, with Underdown recording 12 kills, one shy of team leader
Jamie Bredahl.

Bredahl also led the Huskies in digs with 20, while juniors
Carmen Costa and
Kristen Walding led the team in blocks (4) and digs (20) respectively.

Drake was led by Kyla Inderski (19 kills), Capris Quaites (five blocks) and Michelle Thommi (25 digs).
