Boca Raton, Fla. – The Northeastern volleyball team swept day two of the FAU Invitational en route to a 3-1 record to begin the 2016 season. Following its upset against North Florida, Northeastern capped off the night defeating tournament host Florida Atlantic (1-3).

In the same fashion as the North Florida match, Northeastern dropped the first set (25-22) and then took three straight (25-20, 25-21, 25-21) to claim the victory.

Northeastern freshman
Amy Underdown had another impressive performance racking up 18 kills and 12 digs, good for her third double-double of the tournament.
Kristen Walding notched 35 assists in the match. Sophomore
Gabrielle Eyl added another 25 digs and senior
Jamie Bredahl also tallied her third double-double on the season.

For the Florida Atlantic Owls, freshman Sigourney Kame led the offense with 14 kills. Ivone Martinez added 28 assists and Nathalie Rosado recorded 14 digs.

Northeastern freshmen made an impact with points from Underdown, Lund and White pushing the Huskies ahead 13-8.

Northeastern and FAU traded points early, never allowing the opposition to have more than a two point advantage.
Northeastern made a run with the last few points to claim the set.

The Huskies and Owls traded leads through the first 20 points (10-10).
A few long rallies led to a slow increase of the score.
A few attack errors from Florida Atlantic and kills from Underdown and Bredahl give the Huskies the match lead (2-1)

Northeastern got off to an early lead on a 6-1 run.
Florida Atlantic stayed competitive adding points keeping Northeastern's margin to five or less.
After taking a timeout with the score 20-19, Northeastern took five points to Florida Atlantic's two winning the match.

Next up, Northeastern will travel across the country to compete in the Long Beach State/UC Irvine Mizuno Invitational. On Friday, Sept. 2 the Huskies will face Washington State and UC Irvine at 1 p.m. and 10 p.m. EST respectively. The following day, Northeastern will take on California at 1 p.m. EST.

Game Recap vs. North Florida
The Northeastern volleyball team (2-1) snapped a three-game winning streak and defeated tournament leader North Florida (3-1) in four sets today, Saturday.

North Florida edged Northeastern in set one (25-20) but the Huskies bounced back and took three straight (25-19, 25-23 and 25-14).

Northeastern showed its strength by maintaining a substantial leads in sets two through four. The Huskies led wire-to-wire in set four for their third 11-point victory of the tournament.Â

Stepping up for the Huskies were freshmen
Amy Underdown and
Shaina White. Underdown tallied 15 kills for the team lead followed by White with 11 kills. Other notable contributors were junior
Kristen Walding, who raked in another 18 assists and sophomore
Gabrielle Eyl, who posted 25 digs.

For the Ospreys, junior Courtney Miller racked up 17 kills while sophomore Madilyn McCarty had 21 assists. Prior to today's match, North Florida had defeated Drake (3-2), Florida Atlantic (3-2) and Bethune-Cookman (3-1).
