Season Stats
Durham, N.H. – The Northeastern volleyball team defeated New Hampshire 3-1 on Tuesday night. Northeastern (10-4) forced set one into extra points (27-25) before dropping set two 25-23 and then coming back to take two straight (25-20, 25-20) to close out the match in four. New Hampshire moves to 7-8 to enter America East play.
Junior
Kristen Walding posted a season high 50 assists and in set four the team put up a .400 hitting percentage.
Leading the Huskies was senior
Caterina Rosander who posted a team high 14 kills with zero errors for a .636 hitting percentage. Rosander also posted a team high five blocks.
Gabrielle Eyl and
Jamie Bredahl both tallied 19 digs.
New Hampshire's Kennedi Smith led the Wildcats with 17 kills and a .448 hitting percentage. Keelin Severtson recorded 51 assists and Demi Muses registered 15 digs.
Set One Recap: (27-25 Northeastern)
- Northeastern began the match with a 3-1 run including kills from Jamie Bredahl and Caterina Rosander
- The Wildcats chipped back and tied the score at 4.
- Northeastern and New Hampshire traded points to 10-10.
- Three consecutive kills from Rosander (2) and Walding (1) put the Huskies up 14-10.
- Northeastern climbed to a five-point lead at 18-13 but New Hampshire clawed back to tie the score again at 24.
- An attack error from the Wildcats and a kill from Jamie Bredahl sealed set one for the Huskies.
Set Two Recap: (25-23 New Hampshire)
- Caterina Rosander began the set with a monster block.
- The Wildcats went on a 5-0 run taking a 6-2 lead.
- New Hampshire knocked a few more in to make it 9-3.
- The Wildcats kept the momentum pushing the score to 17-10.
- Northeastern stayed within reach at 21-17 and closed the gap to 24-23 after an unsuccessful challenge from UNH.
- A quick kill from UNH's Smith tied the match 1-1.
Set Three Recap: (25-20 Northeastern)
- New Hampshire struggled to get control of anything coming from Fry or Rosander.
- Northeastern took a 3-0 lead right out of the gate.
- The Huskies charged to 5-1 with attack errors from UNH.
- Northeastern left set two in the dust taking an 8-2 lead.
- Asada took dives to the floor twice in the same rally en route to a 13-7 lead for Northeastern.
- The Wildcats kept on Northeastern's heels but the Huskies held the lead through 20-17.
- New Hampshire took another timeout to regroup as the Huskies headed for the final points at 23-18.
Set Four Recap: (25-20 Northeastern)
- Set four began as a point for point battle with the teams tied at 10.
- Northeastern took a slight lead at 9-6 and kept it through 14-11 when another UNH video challenge was denied.
- Burcescu slammed one over and put Northeastern up 18-12.
- Shaina White and Caterina Rosander put the set and match away in favor of Northeastern for a 3-1 victory.
