Box Score College Park, Md. – The Northeastern volleyball team opened up their 2017 season on Friday with a loss against Temple at the Maryland Invite. The Huskies fought hard in the final set, but lost 3-0 in College Park, Md.

Athena Ardila lead Northeastern with eight kills, and closely behind her were
Amy Underdown and
Brigitte Burcescu, both with six kill each.
Gabrielle Tschannen and
Natalie Shollin led the team in blocks with five and three, respectively.

Junior libero Gabrielle Ely was stellar from the back row with 16 digs, the most of the match. Senior setter
Kristen Walding racked up 13 assists and 4 digs.

Three freshman made their collegiate debut for Northeastern: Ardila, Tschannen and
Samantha Shupe.

Set One Recap:
- 25-11, Temple
- A kill by Temple's Katerina Papazoglou broke the 6-6 tie
- Temple then went on a 8-1 run

Set Two Recap:
- 25-18, Temple
- Northeastern went on a 5-0 run to start off the set
- After a timeout, Temple went on to tie the game at 6-6
- The Huskies made a push towards the end of the set, but couldn't overcome the seven-point deficit

Set Three Recap:
- 25-20, Temple
- Northeastern held Temple almost point for point during the first half of the set
- A kill by Shollin put the Huskies just three behind Temple, 20-17
- The Huskies scored three to put the game at 23-20, but Temple came back to close out the set and the match

The Huskies will face Maryland on Saturday at 10 a.m. and then they will take on UMBC at 4 p.m.
