Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 COLLEGE PARK, Md. – The Huskies volleyball team finished the day with one win and loss at the Maryland Invite on Saturday. Northeastern fell to Maryland 3-1 in the morning, before defeating UMBC 3-1 in the afternoon for the first win of the season.
 
Northeastern at Maryland
 
Senior outside hitter Brigitte Burcescu led Northeastern with ten kills. Sophomore Natalie Shollin and freshman Athena Ardila both had seven kills.
 
Shollin also had two blocks on the day. Her points scored in the match (8.0) tied her collegiate high, which she set on September 9, 2016 against Fordham.
 
Sophomore Amy Underdown recorded three aces against Maryland, which set a new collegiate high for her. Junior libero Gabrielle Eyl racked up 15 digs and two assists in the match.

Set One Recap:

• 25-21, Northeastern
• Northeastern went on a 7-0 run to take a 10-4 lead over Maryland
• A kill from Underdown gave the Huskies a first set victory

 
Set Two Recap:

• 25-17, Maryland

• Maryland went on a 6-0 run to give the Terrapins a 14-12 lead over the Huskies

• Shollin's kill put Northeastern just one behind Maryland at 17-16
• The Terrapins then went on a 8-1 run to take the second set

 
Set Three Recap:

• 25-18, Maryland
• After a timeout, Northeastern pulled to within four of Maryland
• Two aces from Maryland's Katie Myers gave the Terrapins the third set win

 
Set Four Recap:

• 25-14, Maryland
• Maryland went on a 4-0 run to start off the fourth set
• With Maryland at match point, Northeastern went on a 5-0 run to hold them off
• But a kill by Maryland's Hailey Murray won the Terrapins the set and the match

 
Northeastern vs. UMBC
 
The Huskies dropped the first set against the Retrievers, but then came back to win the match 3-1 and capture their first win of the season.
 
Underdown had a phenomenal match for the Huskies, recording 18 kills and 13 digs. Those 18 kills tied her collegiate high, which she set on August 27, 2016 against Florida Atlantic.
 
Burcescu and Shollin both had 10 kills in the match. Freshman Samantha Shupe racked up 29 assists, the most of the match. Eyl was solid for the back row again, recording 22 digs.
 

Set One Recap:

• 26-24, UMBC
• Northeastern went on a 6-1 run to take the lead at 22-21
• A kill from Underdown put the Huskies in the position to win the set
• UMBC then went on a 3-0 run to win the set

 
Set Two Recap:

• 25-21, Northeastern
• The Huskies' 6-0 run gave them a five-point lead early in the game
• A kill from Underdown and a Tschannen-Ardila block gave Northeastern a 23-19 lead
• Two errors from the Retrievers gave the Huskies a set two victory

 
Set Three Recap:

• 25-14, Northeastern
• Kills from Tschannen an Bursecu gave Northeastern an early 5-2 lead
• Two blocks from Tschannen and Ardila helped the Huskies to a 7-1 run

 
Set Four Recap:

• 25-16, Northeastern
• Northeastern started off strong with a 6-0 lead after three kills from Underdown, one kill from Shollin and one ace for Burcescu
• The Retrievers made a push towards the end of the set, holding off the Huskies match point with a 5-0 run
