Volleyball defeats Charleston in four sets

BOSTON –  Northeastern volleyball picked up it's second conference win of the season with a victory over the College of Charleston on Sunday. Athena Ardila and Amy Underdown led the match in kills, both posting 16 on the day.
 
Underdown recorded her seventh double-double of the season. The junior tallied 13 digs and three aces against the Cougars. Ardila's 16 kills was a new career high for the freshman
 
Senior Brigitte Burcescu also had a solid match for the Huskies, with 13 kills and three blocks. Freshman Gabrielle Tschannen had five blocks on the day and four kills.
 
Samantha Shupe and Kristen Walding combined for 50 assists, while Gabrielle Eyl recorded 24 digs. The Huskies had five aces: Underdown, Tschannen and Eyl.

Set One Recap:
·       25-23, Northeastern  
·       A Eyl ace gave Northeastern a 8-7 lead
·       The Huskies went on a 6-1 run to take a 15-11 lead
·       A Burcescu kill gave the Huskies the first set win
 
Set Two Recap:
·       25-23, Northeastern
·       Northeastern started off the second set with a 7-1 run to take a 7-2 lead
·       The Cougars came back to tie the set up at 15-15
·       A kill from Charleston's Payton Eisnaugle gave the Cougars their first led of the set, 19-18
·       The Huskies went on a 3-0 run to secure the set win
 
Set Three Recap:
·       25-20, Charleston
·       The Cougars went on a 8-1 run to take a 15-5 lead
·       Northeastern went on a 7-2 run to cut Charleston's lead to just five
·       A Burcescu-Tschannen block brought the Huskies within one, 20-19
·       A kill from Charleston's Devon Rachel gave the Cougars the third set win
 
Set Four Recap:
·       25-21, Northeastern
·       An ace from Underdown gave the Huskies a 3-1 lead
·       Ardila's kill gave Northeastern a 11-9 lead
·       A kill from Charleston's Kennedy Madison gave the Cougars their first lead of the set, 19-18
·       The Huskies secured the match win with a kill from Ardila
 
Up Next For Northeastern:
The Huskies will continue conference play when they head to Newark to take on Delaware on Friday, September 29 at 5 p.m.
