Kingston, R.I. – The Huskies picked up their second win of the season against Rhode Island on Friday. Sophomores
Natalie Shollin and
Amy Underdown both had standout matches for the Red and Black.
The Huskies and Rams went almost point for point at the end of the third set, but Northeastern stayed strong and secured the win, before taking the match with a 25-16 fourth set win.
Shollin and Underdown both posted double-doubles against the Rams, it was Shollin's first of her collegiate career and Underdown's ffith. Shollin racked up 11 kills and 11 blocks in the four-set win, while Underdown tallied up 16 kills and 10 digs.
Freshman
Athena Ardila and senior
Brigitte Burcescu were solid all match for the Huskies, recording eight and seven kills, respectively.
Samantha Shupe and
Kristen Walding combined for 44 assists.
Gabrielle Eyl had a great match from the back row, with 20 digs on the night. The Huskies racked up four aces during the match: Eyl, Shupe,
Gabrielle Tschannen and Underdown.
This was Northeastern's seventh win against Rhode Island, putting the series at 18-7 in the Rams favor.

- Rhode Island came back to tie the set up at 10-10
- Northeastern went on a 7-1 run to take a 17-11 lead, with kills from Underdown and Shollin and an ace from Tschannen
- A kill by the Rams' Jenna McGuire gave Rhode Island the second set and tied the match at 1-1
Set Three Recap:

- Rhode Island took an early 8-6 win
- Northeastern went on a 4-0 run to tie the set back up at 17-17
- The Rams tied the set up again at 20-20
- A Burcescu-Shollin block put the Huskies in the lead at 23-21
- A bad set for Rhode Island gave Northeastern the third set win

- 25-16, Northeastern
- The Huskies started off the fourth set with a 6-0 run, with kills from Burcescu, Shollin and Underdown
- Kills from Shollin and Underdown gave the Huskies a nine-point lead, 17-8
- An Underdown kill gave the Red and Black the fourth set and match win
