The Northeastern men's track & field team turned in its best finish in school history at the 2011 CAA Track & Field Championship, finishing up in third place with two individual triumphs and a victory by the Huskies' 4 x 400-meter relay team. Before this weekend, the Huskies best finish at the conference championship came both in 2006 and 2007 when Northeastern finished in fourth place in consecutive seasons.

The Huskies pieced together 125.5 points while George Mason ran away with the event by a 95.5-point margin (239 points). UNC Wilmington was the runner-up with an aggregate of 143.5 points.

After rookie Eric Jenkins set the tone for Northeastern with a victory in the 5,000-meter run (14:27.04) to start things off on Friday, senior tri-captain Jonathan Hall followed suit and captured the 400-meter hurdles crown with Northeastern's second-best time in school history of 51.65. The triumph marks Hall's second crown in the event at the conference level as the North Bellmore, N.Y. native also won the 2009 400-meter hurdles championship with a time of 52.82.

The Huskies made more history when NU earned its first relay crown at the CAA Championship. The four-man squad of rookies Alex Shapiro and Kaylin Miranda along with junior Evan Whetsell and Hall joined forced and dusted the 4 x 400-meter relay field with a time of 3:15.99. NU's finish topped the Huskies best time in the event all year by almost two and a half seconds.

Senior Patrick Jablonski took matters into his own hands in the ring on Saturday, collecting 16 points by himself, earning eight points apiece in both the shot put and discus events. The Deerfield, Mass. native posted a second-place heave of 16.36m in the shot put and followed that performance up with another second-place toss of 48.89m in the discus throw.

Senior veteran Adrian Li returned from injury and gutted out another podium performance for Northeastern, clearing 1.99m in the high jump for third place and six points.

Newcomer Dylan Lucas entered his first decathlon of the season and emerged as the third-place finisher, accumulating 6,232 points and six points. Lucas posted two second-place finishes in the pole vault (4.48m) and the 1,500-meter run (4:13.17). Lucas also crossed in 51.53 for third place in the 400-meter dash. Classmate Jackson MacDonald also partook in his first collegiate decathlon and recorded three Huskies points with a sixth-place total of 5,935. MacDonald won both the 110-meter hurdles (15.58) and the shot put (11.50m).

Seven more Huskies and the 4 x 100-meter relay team posted finishes in the top eight for Northeastern with a majority of the action coming from the field.

After Friday's second-place performance of 7.23m in the long jump, junior Andrew Staples followed that up with a sixth-place spring of 1.94m for three points in the high jump. In the triple jump pit, sophomore Tejorn Davis and senior Brian Racca gathered three and two points, respectively, after sixth and seventh-place showings. Davis combined for 14.36m while Racca posted a mark of 13.80m.

First-year thrower Kevin Rosenberg made his mark in his first conference championship and picked up a point in the shot put, yielding a measure of 14.18m for eight place.

Back on the track, the Huskies racked up three more fifth-place finishes and a seventh-place performance from junior transfer Darius Velez in the 100-meter dash. Velez earned two points after crossing in 10.86.

Whetsell looped the oval twice for fifth place in the 800-meter run, kicking out a time of 1:51.43 for three points. Newcomer Brian Doyle entered his first collegiate steeplechase event and was able to collect four points thanks to a fifth-place jaunt of 9:38.57.

Northeastern's 4 x 100-meter relay contingent of sophomore Anthony Gentles, Shapiro, Hall and Velez combined for a fifth-place time of 42.56 and four points.

Northeastern's championship season rolls on with its next stop coming in Princeton, N.J. for the ECAC/IC4A Championships. Competition starts on Friday, May 13 and concludes on Sunday, May 15.
