Volleyball falls to Towson on Senior Day

Box Score BOSTON – Northeastern volleyball fell to Towson 1-3 on Sunday. It was a well fought Colonial Athletic Association matchup, that saw 17 different lead changes during the four-set match.
 
Prior to the match, the Huskies honored their three seniors, Brigitte Burcescu, Carmen Costa and Kristen Walding, for their outstanding achievements and contributions as members of the Northeastern volleyball program.
 
Amy Underdown posted her 15th double-double of the season, with 24 kills and 12 digs. Athena Ardila and Gabrielle Tschannen both recorded 11 kills in the match.
 
Burcescu had a great day for the Red and Black, recording 11 kills. The New York native now has 1,223 career kills for the Huskies, and moved to sixth all-time in program history for career kills.
 
Gabrielle Eyl and Clare Lund both had strong matches for the Huskies, with 28 and 17 digs, respectively. Samantha Shupe and Walding combined for 59 assists on the day.
 
Set One Recap:
  • 30-28, Towson  
  • Tschannen tied the set up at 7-7 with a kill
  • An Underdown kill gave the Huskies a 14-12 lead
  • A kill from Towson's Olivia Finckel tied the set up at 22-22
  • An ace from Clare Lund gave Northeastern set point, 27-26
  • Towson went on a 3-0 run to win the set

  • A kill from Underdown tied the set up at 6-6
  • Northeastern went on a 10-1 run to take a 18-12 lead
  • The Tigers went on a 7-0 run to win the second set
 
Set Three Recap:
  • 25-20, Northeastern
  • A kill from Burcescu cuts the Tigers' lead to one, 9-8
  • Underdown's kill gave the Huskies a 16-14 lead
  • A kill from Shollin put Northeastern ahead 23-17
  • The Huskies secured the third set win with a kill from Ardila
 
Set Four Recap:
  • 25-23, Towson
  • A 4-1 run for the Huskies tied the set back up at 6-6
  • Back-to-back aces for Towson gave the Tigers a 15-11 lead
  • Northeastern's 6-1 run cut the Tigers lead to one, 18-17
  • A service error for the Huskies secured the set and match win for the Tigers
