BOSTON –  The Huskies took down University of North Carolina Wilmington 2-1 on Friday night in their conference opener. After dropping the first set, Northeastern stormed back to take the next three to get their eighth win of the season.
 
Amy Underdown continued her tremendous play for the Red and Black, recording her sixth double-double of the season. The junior posted 28 kills and 16 digs on the night. Her 28 kills is the most in a match since Lauren DeTurk's 28 in 2008 against Delaware.
 
Freshman Samantha Shupe posted the fifth double-double of her career, racking up 20 assists and 12 digs. Freshman Gabrielle Tschannen also had a great match for the Huskies, tallying eight kills and six blocks.
 
Junior Gabrielle Eyl was solid from the back row again with 23 digs. The Huskies racked up five aces in the match: Clare Lund, Sherrie Wang, Eyl and Underdown.  

Set One Recap:

• 25-22, UNCW  
• An ace from Wang tied the set at 6-6
• UNCW went on a 4-1 run to take a 11-8 lead
• Northeastern went on a 4-0 run to hold off UNCW's set point
• A kill from UNCW's Kendall Bender gave the first set win to the Seahawks

 
Set Two Recap:

• 25-23, Northeastern
• An early 5-1 run gave the Huskies a 7-4 lead
• Underdown's kill tied the set up at 9-9
• Northeastern went on a 4-1 run to take a 13-10 lead
• Shupe won the set for the Huskies with a kill

 
Set Three Recap:

• 25-21, Northeastern
• Kills from Burcescu and Underdown sent the Huskies on a 4-0 run and gave them a 4-3 lead
• A Shollin-Burcescu block gave Northeastern a 16-15 lead
• Two attack errors from UNCW secured the third set for Northeastern

 
Set Four Recap:

• 26-24, Northeastern
• Northeastern went on a 7-2 run to start off the fourth set
• The Huskies' 5-1 run tied the set at 16-16, with kills from Burcescu and Underdown
• Two kills from Underdown gave the set and match win to the Huskies

The Huskies will face the College of the Charleston on Sunday at 1 p.m. in the Cabot Center.
