Even though the Solomon Invitational had its fair share of wind, hand warmers and blankets, the Northeastern men's track & field team combined for six victories on Saturday at Dedham, Mass. in its final home meet of the season.
The Huskies throwing department cleaned up, claiming the shot put, discus and sweeping the top three spots in the hammer throw while Northeastern also posted triumphs in the pole vault, high jump, 110-meter hurdles and 1,500-meter run
Rookie
James Hall won the hammer throw with an IC4A-qualifying season best of 56.36m (184'11) while classmate
Max Milder's mark of 54.42m (178'6) warranted a second-place label. Senior
Alex Iannetta completed the podium sweep with a third-place launch of 54.29m (178'1).
Veteran
Patrick Jablonski performed the heavy lifting in both the shot put and discus throw events, emerging with the title in both. Jablonski's cranks of 15.66m (51'4.5) in the shot put and 50.12m (164'5) in the discus throw were the winning marks while newcomer
Kevin Rosenberg picked up third place in the shot put with a throw of 14.13m (46'4.25). Junior
Mark Mastone turned in a fourth-place finish of 40.40m (132'6) in the discus throw while rookies
Conor Ebbs and Rosenberg posted sixth and seventh-place finishes, respectively, at 39.58m (129'10) and 39.48m (129'6).
Staying in the field, junior
Andrew Staples walked away with the high jump victory, needing just two clearances to take home the crown. The Narrangansett, R.I. native hurdled over 1.93m (6'4) for the victory. Sophomore
Tejorn Davis joined Staples as the second-place finisher with a mark of 1.83m (6'0).
In the pole vault, junior captain
Brian Daly sprung over 4.42m (14'6) in the pole vault for Northeastern's fourth win of the day.
On the oval, newcomer
Sean Collins outhurdled a field of seven after winning the 110-meter hurdles in 15.21 while classmate
Brian Doyle outkicked 30 others to win the 1,500-meter run in a season best of 4:01.91. Classmate
Michael MacKenzie captured 10th (4:12.58) while junior
Sebastian Putzeys grabbed 14th after trotting in a time of 4:14.93.
Junior
Evan Whetsell missed the 800-meter crown by just 79 one-hundredths of a second, looping the course twice in 1:55.98 for second place. Freshman
Sean Collins posted a fourth-place time of 1:58.85 while junior
Kyle Audet chalked up a ninth-place beat of 1:58.85. Sophomore
Luke Malley finished in 13th (2:01.71).
In NU's two distance challengers, senior
Joe Siravo posted second-place laurels in the 10,000-meter run after outlasting the course in 32:06.67. In the 5,000-meter run, sophomore
Chris Mentas logged an eighth-place jaunt of 15:58.53.
Senior
Brendan Bergson and newcomer
Kaylin Miranda notched second and third-place showings in the long jump. Bergson's mark of 6.41m (21'0.5) was good for second while Miranda cleared 6.33m (20'9.25) for third. In the triple jump, sophomore
Tejorn Davis landed in the fourth-place spot after a combination of 13.46m (44'2).
Freshman
Christopher Reider and junior
Greg Andrus were Northeastern's top two finishers in the javelin throw. Reider took down fifth place (48.99m – 160'9) while Andrus threw for a mark of 48.75m (159'11).
Northeastern will split up before heading to the CAA Championship and send some Huskies to the famed Penn Relays while others will participate in the Stonehill Invitational next weekend.
