David R. Poile was elected to the Hall of Fame his accomplishments in the sport of ice hockey.

Poile was a high-scoring centerman for Jimmy Bell's Huskies. He was a multiple All New England and All East selection and finished his Northeastern hockey career as the University's second all-time leading goal scorer. Poile was unmistakably a goal scorer in the division one ranks. He wound up with a University record 11 hat tricks and 82 goals in just three varsity seasons. As a senior captain, Poile tallied 37 times in 23 games to produce the University's second-leading season goal total and per game goal average (1.63). Poile was the Team Most Valuable Player in two of his three varsity seasons, and won the prestigious Paul Hines Award for the Most Improved Player in New England as voted by the Hockey Writers Association in 1967-68.

Professionally he launched his hockey management career with the Atlanta Flames, where he was Assistant General Manager for six years before taking over with the Washington Capitals, where he would become General Manager. Twice, Poile was named National Hockey League Executive of the Year, in 1982-83 and 1984-85. He currently is the General Manager for the new National Hockey League expansion franchise in Nashville.
