Edward T. Barry was elected to the Hall of Fame for a distinguished career in athletics, as both player and coach.

Barry excelled at Northeastern, lettering in football, hockey and baseball. In the winter of 1940, he left Northeastern to skate for the Boston Olympics of the Eastern Hockey League and captained them in 1941 and 1942. Following a tour of duty in the Coast Guard in World War II, Barry played for the Boston Bruins in 1946 and 1947. He was the first American to play for the Bruins since the 1920's.

Leaving the Bruins, he went into the insurance business and became a partner of Barry and Farrell Insurance Agency. He still kept his ties with the ice rink, continuing to play and coach for the Boston Olympics for a number of seasons. He went on to coach Boston State College, being the only coach the school ever had in the sport of hockey. He took Boston State to two ECAC Division II Tournaments and two NAIA Tournaments, In 1965, his team compiled a 20-0 record. Also, for 15 years, Barry was a top official in ECAC and NCAA hockey competition.
