John S. Bialek, who passed away June 8, 1977, has been elected to the Hall of Fame for his outstanding achievements as an athlete and an alumnus.

A member of the Class of 1937, he earned three baseball letters and three hockey letters from 1935 to 1937. Bialek was an outstanding forward in hockey and was named to the All New England and All East teams his junior and senior seasons. As captain of the 1937 hockey team, he led the nation in scoring. Playing only a ten game schedule, he scored 26 goals and 16 assists for 42 points. After graduation, he played on the Boston Olympic hockey team for three years. A native of Ipswich, Mass., Bialek is considered to be the finest athlete ever produced by the town. He contributed a lifetime of devotion to the town of Ipswich and its citizens. He was elected to the Ipswich Board of Selectmen for eight years and served as chairman. He was chairman of the School Building Needs Committee and served on the Ipswich River Watershed Commission and the Town Recreation Committee. He was instrumental in redesigning the town's sewer plant and the construction of their new reservoir. In Ipswich, he was one of the founders of Little League Baseball. At the time of his death, he had served that group as its president for ten years. He also founded the Ipswich Youth Hockey League and served as its president until a year before his passing.

Bialek was a project engineer for the United States Shoe Machinery Corporation for 38 years and served as president of their Quarter Century Club. He and his wife Sophie had two children.
