Philip R. McCabe was elected to the Hall of Fame his accomplishments in the sport of football and his contributions to the University as an administrator.

McCabe captained the 1961 Husky grid squad as an offensive and defensive tackle. As Dean of Admissions at Northeastern, McCabe has been instrumental in shaping a steady course for the world's leader in Co-operative Education. McCabe enrolled at Northeastern in the autumn of 1958 after a three year stint in Korea. Husky mentor Joe Zabilski would use McCabe at every position along the trenches except for center. McCabe showcased his athleticism at tackle, middle guard, end and even linebacker on defense, and at tackle and guard on offense. Playing hurt but effectively for most of his senior season, McCabe was rewarded for his efforts with the Outstanding Senior Award in 1961. An outstanding academic record and co-op position in the guidance offices at Northeastern prepared him for a career he had chosen by his junior year. Professionally, McCabe would concentrate on Education after graduating with his degree in Psychology in 1963. McCabe taught and coached three sports at Milton High School while earning his Masters in Education from Northeastern before being enticed back to Northeastern by former President Jack Curry.

At Northeastern, McCabe chartered an inexorable path up the administrative ladder, while maintaining strong ties and support to the Northeastern athletic program. He rose from Assistant to Associate Director of Admissions to Director of Admissions in 1976. He also served as Varsity Club President in 1973 and as an officer on the Executive Board of the University's primary athletic support group. He is also the founder of the Varsity Club's most popular event, the annual Varsity Club Golf Tournament.
