Robert F. Barry was inducted into the Hall of Fame for his achievements in the sports of ice hockey and baseball.

Barry was a star forward and defenseman in hockey and a hard-hitting catcher on the baseball diamond. A distinguished two-sport athletic career at Northeastern set the foundation for a rich professional career as a high school, collegiate and National Hockey League official. As a hockey player of some note, Barry skated on some renowned two-line, three-defenseman Husky squads of that era, and on the baseball field backstopped home plate while developing into a spray hitter. Northeastern's senior Class President of 1950-51, went on to establish the Northeastern Varsity Club, of which he became its second President. Always the athlete and forever involved, Barry would rise to President of the National Ice Hockey Officials Association and of the Eastern Ice Hockey Officials Association, between 1969 and 1973.

Barry lettered four years in hockey (1947-50) and three times in baseball (1948-50). He was the Most Improved Player in hockey his senior year. Clever stickhandling and corner work were Barry's major calling cards for three years as a forward. However, with the Husky blue line corps depleted in his senior year, Barry was called upon to deliver his talents as a defenseman. Barry and fellow Hall of Famer Frank Rando proceeded to form one of the old New England League's best defensive tandems.
