Richard L. Weitzman was inducted into the Hall of Fame for his accomplishments in the sport of basketball.

Weitzman, who captained Northeastern to a 22-4 1967 season, earned a championship ring as a member of the Boston Celtics in 1968. A three-year letter winner from 1965 through 1967, Weitzman won All New England and All East College Division honors. After a year's tour with the United State's Maccabiah team, Weitzman found himself listed on the same roster as such everyday names as Bill Russell, Tommy Heinsohn and John Havilcek. Though a recurring ankle injury cut short his professional playing career, Weitzman stayed with the organization, first as Johny Most's teammate on the Celtics' radio network, and eventually becoming Director of Scouting through the 1997 season.

Weitzman finished his career at Northeastern as the sixth all-time scorer with 903 points. In his sophomore season, he set a University field goal percentage mark and was selected Sophomore of the Year by the Eastern College Athletic Conference. Making steady progress toward stardom as a junior, he led the team in scoring with a 14.3 average, as Northeastern won 18 games. He capped a brilliant career in 1967, averaging 13 points per game as team floor general and led Northeastern to its best record ever and a berth in the NCAA College Division Tournament. His overall value to the program is reflected in a 63-23 record between 1965 and 1967.
