Jacquelyne Sedgwick, Class of 1999, has been elected to the Northeastern University Varsity Club Hall of Fame for excellence in the sport of track & field.
Sedgwick was voted All-America in high school and rose to be one of New England’s greatest shot putters.

At Sweet Home High School in Tonawanda, N.Y., Sedgwick played volleyball, field hockey and track & field. However, track & field was to be her destiny. As a junior and as a senior, she won both the indoor and outdoor New York state championships in the shot put. She competed in the Empire State games and high school national championship.

Her prowess in the classroom and on the track earned her a scholarship to Northeastern. At that time, the Huskies women’s track & field program was slowly establishing itself as a New England power. It had won the America East indoor championship for four straight seasons and the outdoor title for two. However, with the addition of Sedgwick, it only got better. As a rookie in the 1995-96 season, she established herself quickly by winning the conference and New England shot put titles. Outdoors, she also contributed to Northeastern’s America East and New England crowns.

As a sophomore, she again won the America East and New England indoor shot put championships, but also added the conference’s weight throw title. In the spring, she added the New England outdoor crown. The team won America East outdoor and New England indoor titles.

In her junior year, she again won the America East and New England shot put indoor titles and both the conference and New England weight throw championships. She also won the New England outdoor shot put. The team won both the America East indoor and outdoor titles.

Sedgwick finished her senior season in fine fashion. She completed a career sweep of the indoor shot put by winning both the conference and New England indoor championships for the fourth straight time. She also won the America East weight throw for the third straight year and captured her second New England title. The team took gold in both the New England indoors and outdoors and in the America East outdoors.

In her career, Sedgwick won seven New England titles and eight America East crowns. As the top point contributor, she helped lead the team to six America East and five New England crowns.

After her last season in 1999, Sedgwick had established herself as one of the greatest throwers in NU history. She had recorded the second-longest shot put throws in Husky history, both indoors (47’7.5) and outdoors (48’2.75). In the weight throw, she is second (56’10.25) and in the hammer third (163’11).
Sedgwick was a Dean’s List student that was awarded a Reggie Lewis Memorial Scholarship. She is currently a teacher in the Boston Public School system and resides in Chestnut Hill, Mass.
